From the Battle of New Orleans to LSU’s founding as a military school to the modern-day contributions of Fort Johnson, Barksdale Air Force Base and other stalwart facilities, the Armed Forces have loomed large throughout Louisiana’s history. Louisiana military bases range in history, from being founded in the early 1900s to beginning in the early 2000s. Each base also serves a unique purpose, from combat and military support to civilian training.
